I get writer’s block a lot of times… Maintaining a blog or writing for the internet, sometimes I just stare at the post page and think about what to write and get nothing.
How do I deal with it, and get something decent out? Here are a few of them:
- Take a walk. Getting a breath of fresh air sometimes is what we need to get those gray matter in our head working creatively. It could be the exercise making blood circulate around the body, it could be the different view… I can’t really say. But I do sometimes get new ideas by taking a walk.
- Do something else. Taking your mind off your work can do wonders. Not thinking about thinking can sometimes make ideas flow in.
- Doodle. Non-nonsensical lines on a piece of paper helps me relax. It feels like I am dumping unnecessary stuff out on a piece of paper.
- Just jump in. When in a slump and you feel like you need to write but just can’t get the idea out, try writing about it… It works, sometimes. Getting the feeling of not being able to write out can help you relax and find new means to write once you get it out. Heck, it works for me (Take a look at this post – I wrote it while I was under a creativity block, and I feel like I can work on other stuff now)
Well, that’s how I deal with writer’s or creativity block. While they work for me, they may or may not also work for you…
So, how do you deal with your block?
