In observance of National Arts Month, the city of Naga hosts the Bikol Arts Festival.
The month long activity which will celebrate arts, culture and heritage that speak of traditions and customs of the Bikolano people started on February 1, 2009. The opening ceremonies, dubbed the Naga City Cultural Night, featured an extravaganza of dance and music performed by various student artists from the city’s colleges and universities.
Kwerdas de Naga rendered its repertoire of string music. It was then followed by Schola Cantorum of the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary (choir songs); University of Nueva Caceres (voyadores)l ACAT of Universidad de Sta. Isabel (Pantomina, Si Nanay si Tatay), Naga College Foundation (‘Ina’), and Teatro Dignos of Ateneo de Naga (Sarung Banggi), all under the direction of Buboy Pesimo of the Ateneo de Naga University.
The finale was a tableau rendition of “Resuene Vibrante” by various participating arts performing groups led by the Naga College Foundation Band.
The show was ended by a giant fireworks display courtesy of the Department of Tourism Bicol Regional Office.
Other highlights for the month are as follows: Fiesta Tsinoy (Feb. 7); Choral Festival (Feb. 9); Culinary Arts Festival (Feb. 12); Bicol Art Exhibit (Feb 13); National Schools Press Conference (Feb. 15-21); NHI Seminar-workshop (Feb. 24); Drum and Lyre (Feb. 27) and the closing rites on Feb. 28. Other activities have also been slated to be held in Legazpi City such as the Bicol Cultural Summit, Theater Festival, Rituals Folk Exhibit, and the Ms. Bikol Arts Princess.
