I woke up late one Saturday morning. I had planned to wake up earlier so that I can surf the net with my Globe Tattoo broadband. However, I overslept, so, even though it is a bit late, I still decided to go and connect to the internet.
I plugged in the device, and connected. It was around 10:00 in the morning.
I was able to connect with ease, however, I noticed that there is no download speed. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
Hmm…
The first thing that worried me is that my load will be consumed. I’ll be paying for five pesos for connecting, and not even a single page displayed. Bummer.
I checked my balance, and luckily, nothing has changed. I tried to stay connected for at least ten more minutes. I checked the balance again, and it has, indeed, remained the same.
Well, that’s a good thing, right? At least Globe does not charge me for a failed connection attempt. Yay!
So I gave up connecting on the net that day…
The next day, Sunday, I connected to the internet around 8:00 in the morning, and connection speed was terrible. A dial-up was better. Terrible, as in the speed is fluctuating from 30kbps to zero. But, at least I was able to do the stuff that I needed. It’s not bad on a Sunday morning, actually…
Later in the afternoon, I had to make an emergency research. I knew that I would be risking a terrible connection. You know how it being a peak time, and all…
I was able to connect. At first, the download speed was slow, but at least there is download. However, after around five minutes of connection, it dropped to zero, and stayed there for around ten minutes. After which, download resumed at a snail’s pace.
I checked my balance, and, unlike Saturday where I had no download speed, I was charged for the few minutes that I received data. Wonderful… =_=
You must be thinking, “In that case, shift to per kb download,” right? That would be fine if I was just checking mail or something… I was researching stuff that contained a lot of data, so my first choice using the per fifteen-minute charge was the logical choice. I miscalculated on the connection speed, though…
Then again, one of the things that the people at Globe told me is that this type of internet is best used on weekdays, when the system is not loaded too much.
I wonder when will Globe upgrade the system to better connections, even on weekends? Although this is not a replacement for a wired broadband, at least we should have decent connections at all times. I wouldn’t want to haul my laptop to a wi-fi spot and leech off the internet or go to a cafe and rent a PC just to surf the net…
So, in conclusion, don’t use your Globe Tattoo Wireless Broadband on weekends, specially during peak hours. Well, you can, but you might as well be risking your credits.
