Robert Kiyosaki on Getting Rich

By Jomz on September 1, 2009

Here’s a video I found in youtube.com, and it’s from Robert Kiyosaki, a best selling author, on how we can be financially free.

Robert Kiyosaki Network Marketing for Financial Freedom

It all starts on how we think, then act on it! We should take things with our own hands if we wish to be financially free.

Let’s get some life in this site

By Jomz on August 28, 2009

Hello everyone.

I noticed the lack of life posts… so I decided to make one… hahaha…

Yeah, we had a little surge of feature articles, thanks to Ichi Haze for the Cyber Fair one.

So, what’s up? Well, I’ve started my micro-business with Royale Business Club, so I’m also involved in direct selling and micro-franchising. It’s good to have a little extra income, apart from the monthly salary, you know?

Now, a little info on the company, it’s recognized by the government – specially the Department of Labor and Employment’s National Reintegration Center for OFW’s. Even the President of the Philippines recognized their achievement.

So, yeah… I’m running out of time… Read more info at my site’s Bizops page.

See you around!

Food Supplement FAQS

By Jomz on August 25, 2009

What Are Food Supplements?

Food supplements are concentrated sources of nutrients or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect whose purpose is to supplement the normal diet. They are marketed ‘in dose’ form i.e. as pills, tablets, capsules, liquids in measured doses etc.

What to consider before taking supplements

Questions to ask yourself before taking supplements:

1. Do I need this supplement?
2. Do I know that this supplement is safe?
3. Does this supplement interact with any drug or food I am consuming?
4. Do I know that this supplement works?
5. Can I afford this supplement?
6. Do I know enough about this supplement?

In the United States of America, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) review of the safety and efficacy of these products is significantly less than for drugs and foods. Be cautious about using any supplement that claims to treat, prevent or cure a serious disease. The FDA has approved only a few claims for labeling, based on a review of the scientific evidence (for example, claims about folic acid and a decreased risk of neural tube birth defects). A recent court case effectively prevents the FDA from regulating health claims on dietary supplement labels. Read carefully and think critically about the claims you see on the packages.

Some dietary supplements may be harmful under some conditions. For example, many herbal products and other “natural” supplements have real and powerful pharmacological effects that can cause harmful reactions in some people or can cause dangerous interactions with prescribed or over-the-counter medicines. It does not necessarily mean that supplements marketed as “natural” are safe and without side effects.

If you have any doubts about the supplement you are taking or thinking of taking, it is vital that you consult your physician.

Provide your physician with a list of the entire ingredients on the label and any information you can find about the supplement such as advertisements or brochures. To make things easy, just bring along the supplement package or bottle to your meeting with the physician.

As the supplement market contains some useless and some potentially dangerous dietary supplements, it is a good idea to seek the advice of a physician if you are:

  • Chronically ill
  • Taking prescription or over the counter (OTC) drugs
  • Pregnant or potentially pregnant
  • Breastfeeding
  • Under age 18
  • Age 65 or older
  • Unsure about taking the supplement after analyzing the label
  • Unsure if you need the supplement or not

Can you benefit from taking a dietary supplement?

If you fall into one of the following groups of individuals you may want to consider taking a supplement:

  • athletes
  • weight loss
  • older adult
  • pregnancy
  • vegetarians

Beware of food supplements, says expert

In the Philippines, however, experts are warning citizens against food supplements.

Food supplements with no scientifically proven health benefits proliferate in the Philippines and they may be detrimental to the health and the finances of consumers in the long run.

Dr. Hazel Paragua, head of the neuro-sciences department of San Beda College of Medicine, said the Philippines has been the dumping ground of food supplement banned in other countries because they contain harmful ingredients or do not really promote wellness.

Taking Safety into your own hands

To ensure a supplement is safe, it’s best to always follow these guidelines, no matter what the current licensing laws might say:

  • Always consult your GP first, especially as supplements may interact with each other or with prescribed medications.
  • Never buy anything that advertises exaggerated claims. Scrutinise all wording carefully.
  • Only buy something from a well-known manufacturer with a good track record.
  • Just because something is not synthetic does not mean it’s safe.
  • Be aware that even many supplements traditionally seen as safe can be dangerous in high doses.
  • Keep in mind that no amount of supplements can substitute for a healthy, well-balanced diet.

Who likes ice cream?

By Jomz on August 25, 2009

Prepare to meet your match with a hundred and one frightening ice cream flavors from around the world… Make a guess as to where most of them are from? Yeah… Japan!

Complete List

Here are some of my random choices:

Deep Water Gelatto. An ice cream containing water taken from deep beneath the earth’s crust, with a taste that suggests it may have been better off remaining there. Actually, this is one of the more palatable members of this collection.

Garlic Ice Cream. At last! An ice cream that lets everybody around you know you’ve eaten it! Garlic-flavored Dracula Ice Cream is a summer delight you can really sink your teeth into. Designed to ward off vampires, this uncommon choice of flavoring may ward off a few ice cream lovers, too. Garlic may well be a wonderful condiment for an assortment of foods, but, as for a substance vampires really hate, this is bloody awful. Incidentally, Garlic Ice Cream was made in the tiny Aomori Prefecture village of Shingo, which claims to be the place where Jesus Christ’s grave is located.

Whale Ice Cream. Whale has long been a delicacy among the Japanese. Certainly not a politically correct choice, but one that will definitely get people blubbering. Despite the rich, creamy texture, the ingredients are probably from a minke and not a sperm. Perhaps we should all be glad for that.

Seaweed Ice Cream. If marine animals aren’t your cup of ice cream, perhaps a healthy alternative of seaweed is preferable? Seaweed is packed with minerals, some of which are medicinal, which probably goes a long way in explaining the taste.

Yeah… I’m not too sure if they’ll taste fine.  I even saw a Durian Ice Cream down there. I bet Filipinos can do something with that! We got Durian Candy, right? Hahahaha… Take your pick!

CYBER FAIR at SM Naga

By ichi haze on August 18, 2009

The Cyber Fair, an event spearheaded by Digitel DSL plus in partnership with SM City Naga, E-Games, and Redfox held last August 14, 15 and 16, 2009 at the ground floor of the SM City Naga. It consisted of the Online Experience (August 14), Anime Dance Contest (August 15), and the Anime Costume Contest (August 16).

online experience and gaming

I was really looking forward in attending this said affair; unfortunately it didn’t go quite well. I was not able to part take in the Online Experience and Anime Dance Contest so I wouldn’t be able to comment about it, however I was there on the 16th.

The Cosplay was what I was really there for, and I was really excited about it. I could have entered as well (maybe) only if I have learned about it earlier. I have only known about the said event a week or so prior to the affair via an ad aired on a radio station.

Going back to the contest, there wasn’t any at all. It had been forfeited since there weren’t enough participants. According to one of the employees there who was cosplaying, there were only two participants. Yes, there were still those who have cosplayed, three of them in fact, but they were employees and it was their role in the event. In short, they we’re cosplaying for the sake of cosplay. Though, I was quite pleased with them since they have worn their costume quite proudly. I am even thankful that they have agreed to strike a pose for a picture.

Cosplayers - Sailor Mars and a Sorceress from Cabal

Still I was truly disappointed of the turnout and I was wondering why it had been like that. Maybe it would have been better if there had been more publicity done about the activity.

Hopefully another one like this would be successfully held.

Interesting place to wander around and learn of internet meme.

A good site to look for interesting projects.  There are some that are easy to make, while there are some that only the technical person might appeciate. (handheld NES anyone?)

DM of the Rings

Are you familiar with the Dungeons and Dragons Board game? Well, whether you’re familiar with it or not, spoof comics are always a fun read, right? This one combines Dungeons and Dragons and The Lord of the Rings.

Traveler’s Guide: Beware the Tricycles

By Jomz on August 7, 2009

I went to Legazpi City yesterday.

I traveled by bus, and when the bus unloaded, there were no Jeepneys in sight, just a bunch of tricycles lined-up.  I know my destination is close by, so I rode one.  I just said my destination and off it went.

Indeed my destination was close.  A sign said 5oo meters.

So, why in the world is this person charging me more than twice for each person for the fare? We were two, by the way.  It was supposed to be within the minimum fare. The place is too close.

The driver of the yellow tricycle with body number 1720 said that it was a “special service” and therefore the higher fare.

What? Where was that stated? And the place was too close.  That’s not right.  I argued back, but he kept saying that “special” thing.  I was too tempted to let him take me to the nearest police outpost… But I was in a hurry.  I kept telling him that this was not fair, and he was taking advantage of people.  I bet he was smiling to himself as he drove off…

I know not every one of tricycle drivers are people willing to take advantage of people that just got off the bus, but as a word of precaution, I suggest that instead of riding tricycles, go find a public jeepney… They’re more accommodating and much more fair than tricycle drivers…

In fact, after I rode the tricycle, I noticed some jeepneys passing by, and I surely regretted my choice.  I’m charging that one to experience, and I’m never riding one when I go to Legazpi City again.  Seriously, double the fare for such a short distance? It was barely a kilometer… Was it because it mistook me for a tourist? Pfft…

So yeah, if you’re traveling there, don’t ride tricycles immediately after going down a bus or van, else spend more for the fare…
